Milano, the fashion ‘capital’ of Italy. This image was captured Winter 2013 atop the magnificent cathedral, right in the centre of the city. Look for the “L” shape framing the scene, formed by the rooftop and trademark of a good few SchimJolie designs.

Of the many people who scale the cathedral and take photographs, no two pictures are ever identical. ‘Duomo Di Milano’ is about how we all see things differently and how important it is to know our minds are subjective. Our differences divide us, but it is the special human quality of open-mindedness lets us recognise, accept and celebrate those differences.

These beautiful poppies caught my attention in the city of Antibes, France. I stopped my bike and took their picture. The red is beautiful.

Fleurs Rouge is a tribute to love. Keep love in your heart and share your love. You will never run out. The more love you share the more you get back . It’s so true. What you see in others reflects who you are! Be a lover, be a friend! Everybody needs to love and to be loved.

The design is captured during lunch outdoors at the five-star Hotel De Paris in Monaco. In the garden of this beautiful and historic Hotel, a faded dandelion turned into what looks like fabulous flower feathers.

We all go through various stages in life. I like to think we are all equal and unique and beautiful at every one of those stages. The secret is to understand this and bear aging with pride and love for yourself. Use precious time wisely and remember: a kind heart or intelligence never stop being beautiful.

Monte Carlo, Monaco. I like to see things through, both visually and in action. I also like to see through things, like not getting distracted by insignificant details. At the Casino Monte Carlo through the water fountain I took this image. Somehow in the process, the design was titled ‘Flower Fontain’, a misspelling of the French. For a brief period, I was upset. But as long as you admit to the mistake, just let it pass and leave it be. So I did. 

This design makes me think of all the people who have difficulties with spelling and writing and how hard it is to always be corrected and the bad feeling of not being good enough. To a standard. I think of how we are divided and defined by our different qualities. I say: be proud of who you are and don’t be afraid of what others say. Pay more attention to what you tell yourself. Talk, think and act positive. There’s no such thing as an irreversible mistake in life.

Take the ferry to Liberty Island and circle around the legendary Statue of Liberty. The lady sure is a spectacle for all eyes. I wanted start to find an interesting and not to obvious angle to capture this iconic statue. The result is a more obscured, mysterious perspective as seen through the branches and leaves of a nearby tree.

There are so much that originates from the archetype of liberty.  Let liberty be about the responsibility that comes with freedom. Focus on how you are morally responsible for everything you think and do. Responsibility is the price of freedom. But if you do good, behave yourself and you trust and believe in yourself you will always feel happy and free. With this in mind, go out in style and start living in liberty.

Strolling along the west promenade of Cap d’Antibes, France.  A captured scene during a beautiful day with the bay, hosting the old traditional French fishing boats, and a luxury house in the background. Rumours abound that the singer Frank Sinatra once stayed there.

The photograph tells the story of changing times and that romantic memories always remain. Ramshackle boats, once new and proud, … a home which keeps the echoes of old love songs … all captured on silk forever.

During summer in Norway we fish a lot of mackerel. It is so much fun to get the wiggling creature on the hook! After the catch, we prepare the fish and pan fry or barbeque. Blood and guts everywhere! Mackerel is traditionally eaten with potatoes, sour-cream and cucumber salad. A pleasant reward after the patient struggle for the catch and its gory presentation.

Like fishing, you can never be certain of the outcome. The secret to getting the fish is to try and try again. Be patient, throw out your best line, and take a chance in life. You’ll only grow to be a stronger person for it.

Standing in line to get on top of One World Trade Center, Downtown, Manhattan. I look up to the sky and capture this interesting shot. The blue, black and white unite in a variety of shapes. Nature and the man-made rise together up to the endless sky. Stretching up and up …

The higher we go spiritually and in life, the smaller we appear to those who don’t know how to and want to follow. It is often said you must seek like-minded people in life who inspire you and want to help lift you higher. But why not also be that person lifting others, because by raising up others you raise yourself up.

Taken while visiting our silk production studio in England. This house leek plant was growing outdoors of their premises in lovely nature, in an old rusty fountain. It brought a smile to my face as I captured its distinct beauty with my macro lens. 

Later that day, the factory bosses welcomed us with big smiles, hospitality and kindness. “Love is all around” is about how you can choose to be loving to others. Be surprised as to how much love and goodwill you’ll get back. Love can overcome everything. Just believe, be happy, and love!

This New York image was captured on the Hudson River in Greenway. See how the L-shape of the nearby buildings robustly frame the One World Trade Centre, still standing, imposing and iconic in the aftermath of 9/11.

For all the tragedy that haunted New York City in the aftermath of 9/11, I wanted to use the L influence in the title of the composition. Love, Live, Laugh are three core principles of a happy life. Giving love, living in the now, laughing out loud. Try it. Remind yourself that life is as much if not more for enjoyment than the serious business.

On top of iconic Empire State Building. Looking out over Manhattan. This image is proof of the amazing urban jungle that is New York City. There is simply no place like it! Look at all these tall buildings standing together, framed by a natural “L” of the built environment.

Love The City is about faith and hope for the future. Imagine all people standing together, with a shared hope and vision for all mankind. This would be a world where we all can thrive in what makes us different as well as the same. So start living today, stop fighting others to be like you, embrace what makes them different, and let us all work for a happy future, whoever and wherever we are.

My hometown of Kristiansand in South Norway was the setting for this shot. The movingly desolate landscape is captured in Lund, a district in the north of the city town. I love to make pictures when it’s foggy and misty like this. Things appear to look more in focus in this kind of weather. 

It’s the same with our life sometimes. Misty as a metaphor means how things can come out clearer when the disruptions disappear or the cloudiness of our minds are replaced with clarity. So, it’s never easy, but try to see beyond the misty and make your life a cleaner and clearer place to be.

The image was taken on Liberty Island, New York City. I was standing under a large tree, facing the city’s unique skyline. There was nothing exceptional I could see through the lens until I took a single step back and framed Manhattan from this distinctive angle using the tree’s branches. That one shift transformed the whole composition of the shot, creating the memorable image you see today.

‘One Step Back’ is about how in life you sometimes need to step aside, retreat, or simply just take a step back to see the bigger picture or get a different perspective.

Milan is famous for fashion and a very nice place to go shopping. This image is shot from inside the famous shopping center, La Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Amazing architecture houses seven floors of stores and boutiques, all under a fantastic glass dome ceiling. La Galleria is Italy’s oldest shopping mall, taking twelve years to build, and opening to the public in 1877.

La Galleria and many of the other buildings on the Piazza Del Duomo makes one think about how clever and skilled the human race is. Maybe there is some idea or unleashed potential in you? Make a plan, work hard, and, if you don’t give up, your dream will come true!
